Dorothy Dowling

Dorothy Dowling is an Australian children’s author with a heart for storytelling and a deep love of the places that raised her. She grew up on a farm with a book-loving mother, a kind farmer father and five siblings, a childhood full of animals, imagination and language, and those beginnings still find their way into everything she writes.

Away from the page, Dorothy is a midwife and nurse who has spent her working life at the frontline of care in rural and remote Australia, including more than five years in the Kimberley. She has welcomed babies into the world and built early-childhood health services for young families across several outback communities. It’s a career spent thinking about how little people learn, laugh, wonder and grow, and it’s exactly that wonder she writes for.
